Solar Plate Etching is a prepared light-sensitive polymer surface on a steel backed plate used to produce fine photographic reproductions with great detail. It is a versatile intaglio technique that can be used to create images that originate from hand drawn artwork, photographs, or a mixture of both. During this course, fine artist Debbie Lee will guide you through the process from creating your design through to exposure, development of plate, preparing the paper and printing.

The history of letter press dates back to its origins in the 15th Century. Come and make a statement with the vintage wood type at Poole Printmakers Studio. Using the fabulous studio Albion press, Letterpress printer Katherine Anteney will show you how to get the most out of this technique.

Collagraph is a printmaking technique that uses a collaged textured plate to create an image that has different tonal patterns and textures. During the weekend course artist Sue Smith will guide you through the process of how to apply different textures to a plate to create an image. You will begin with a test plate where you can experiment to see how different surfaces and textures will look when printed. You will be shown the process of preparing the paper, applying the ink and how to use the press. By the end of the course you will have a finished collagraph plate and several prints to take home with you.

This will be a hands-on day guiding you through the Lino Printing process from sketch to final print and everything in-between. Turning your creative ideas into one or two colour lino prints to take home. Exploring materials, through experimenting with mark making we will explore your creative ideas and how best to translate them onto the lino. You will learn about print materials, registration, transferring of images, inking up, hand burnishing and proofing your image.
Giving you the confidence to carry on and exploring your creative ideas to develop your own style onto the next steps of your printmaking journey.

A practical, hands-on 2 day course as an introduction to screen printing. Also ideal as an introduction to the Poole Printmakers screen printing equipment for members who have some prior experience. The course includes stencil making techniques such as paper and photographic stencils. You will be given a design brief so that you can prepare as much as possible before the course, to give you maximum time experiencing the printing process.

Gel plate printing is the perfect introduction in to printmaking without the need for too many specialist tools or printing presses, all you need is your gel plate, a roller, acrylic paint and a bit of imagination which makes it an ideal skill to practice at home.
The course will be led by Mike Poczapsky who is an experienced gel plate enthusiast. It will be a hands on course where Mike will show you some of the fundamental techniques that will help you explore the versatility of gel plate printing, including creating textures, producing mono prints and also transferring images from magazines. By the end of the course you will have a number of prints to take home with you and hopefully a passion for printing.
